The Founders of ARC are from the Class of 2014 - Yuka Nakamura & Alyssa Thurston. These amazing seniors created this wonderful group!
Yuka (left) attended YIS for 15 years and now attends Northeastern University studying Mech Engineering. she has a pet back home in Japan, called Brookey (Jack Russell) and during my free time she likes to go watch movies and to have a walk around the city. As there were no clubs in YIS that focused on animal welfare, although GIN may have covered ocean protection or endangered animals, it was not really focused on animals and the engagement in the local community. As result they thought that volunteering at a local animal shelter was a great cause and idea. Therefore, these two brilliant seniors decided to step up and lead the group. Her motivation comes from just knowing that the dogs are happy to see her, shaking their tails and jumping up and down, motivates her! " I believe that the number of stray dogs/cats can be reduced and just that belief can motivate me as well"
Alyssa (right) attended YIS for 3 years and now is studying at the University of British Columbia in the Faculty of Science. she has always been passionate about animals and especially has a soft spot for dogs! When the two seniors started talking about ways we could make a difference in our community, they realized that combining their similar passion, they could start a group that helped stray dogs in their area. She loved leading ARC because it is so unique in that the main aspect of the group is hands-on volunteering. She believe what motivates her is the same for all members in the club." It really comes down to how much happiness it brings me to see the dogs so happy to see us even for our brief weekly visits" She hopes that ARC will someday be able to contribute in giving the dogs long-term happiness by being able to find homes for them!
Both Seniors are co-founders and their roles consisted of organising the group, delegating and managing all the logistics behind the activities that ARC did. Both these girls are wonderful and loving students and are genuinely amazing people!
- Thank you from the ARC group!

Erin is a bubbly, fun loving senior at YIS who is always a ball of sunshine; her interests are film and writing. She loves children and animals, as a matter of fact she is also the Elementary group leader. She chose to take on this role as she cares for animals and thinks its great to lend them a hand. "They can't defend themselves so it's nice to know that you can defend them" - Erin. She is a motivated leader due to her own experience with shelter animals and she loves spending more time working with them!

The art group is a central for, yes you guessed it, artists. We have many kinds of creative people working on making posters and flashy visuals. The posters made in this group raise awareness of us as well as the growing issue of homeless animals. This subgroup has also contributed to making the designs such as our logo.
We have 8 members in this group, mostly consisting of aspiring artists and creative connoisseurs of visual editing.
The Adoption group, is a new edition to the ARC group! It includes a hand-full of dedicated and passionate students, who are eager and willing to combine all their talents to get these sheltered animals adopted!
It is their goal to help the families of YIS in the adoption process, including shelter visits, communication and essentially aiding in the process of adoption and helping you chose the perfect new edition to your family.

The Tech and Writing group handles parts that concern mostly the website (here!) and as the name states, writing things for the club. While the main focus so far has been doing working on this website, the future will see far more work and content brought out by the 7 members of it.
What this group does is help act as a node for dispersing information from the other subgroups through our website. If they want something put up here, we'll do it for them!
The events group is a pro-active group, who are the organisers of interactive events that are important to the reputation and awareness of ARC!
This group consists of 8 talented people that are working collaboratively and sharing ideas to achieve their goal of creating awareness of shelter animals, raising funds and improving on the reputation of ARC.

The Elementary group, is an amazing group that uses interactive activities with the children of YIS to help them understand to love and appreciate animals. Their goal is to help the next generation understand that all animals are equal, to prevent abuse and abandonment and overall to educate them of domestic animals and what ties into having a pet.
